The Bible and Book of Mormon should be rated X..
Or even higher, if there’s a higher rating.
Whatever the highest, most explicit rating is…
Both the Bible and the Book of Mormon should be rated THAT rating.
And that being said;
These stories are NOT appropriate for children.
We feel horrified by parents encouraging their children to engage in personal scripture studies, both the Bible and Book of Mormon alike.
Why?
Let’s see.
(These are just a few examples of many that can be found in the scriptures).

There’s a LOT more, of course.
But we decided to keep it short.
And long story short,
Scripture stories are NOT appropriate for young children…
Especially considering how maleable, and imaginative their under-developed, young minds are.
Would you allow your child to watch a tv serious or movie that involved the above topics mentioned in the scriptures?
Would you be okay with your children reading stories like the ones mentioned in the scriptures out loud in public? Scriptures about incest, rape, gore…?
So why then
Would it be appropriate for children to hear these stories at such a young age…
Just because they’re considered “scripture?”
–
Imagine shaming someone for leaving the Church –
Because they don’t believe that children should be subjected to texts and stories that are far above their appropriate developmental understandings, and believe that these stories can traumatize and instill fear-based teachings in children at a young age to get them to comply and obey as they get older.
